Sarah Cronin
Camp No Limits Mentor

Ever since Sarah Cronin was born with a congenital arm difference, she’s been involved with the disability community! As a child, she went to school in Long Island, at a facility that was specific for those with physical disabilities of all types. This helped teach her, support her and prepare her for whatever life challenges were to come! At the time, she may have wanted to be in a regular public school, but she and her family found the opportunity beneficial for Sarah’s future.

While doing some research, googling camps for disabilities, she found Camp No Limits. The Camp’s mission statement is what hooked her in, and she immediately thought, “this is my mission statement too- I want to empower”, and so she did! Now, she helps with our Camp mentor program, Occupational Therapy sessions, virtual projects and more! When going to her first camp in Connecticut, she went in fearlessly, with an open mind and enjoyed EVERY second of it.

When it came to picking a career, Sarah decided to go to college and pursue teaching. She found the transition to be difficult, but it was such an eye opening experience. It was the first time she was in an educational setting without disabilities, which forced her to come out of her shell! Regardless, she adapted really well and discovered what tactics worked best for her.

After graduation, she was nervous that no one was going to hire her, so she went to the disability center and started preparing for interviews. She completed student teaching and then tried to get an internship! At her internship, they were looking for new teachers, and so she applied! Without a doubt, Sarah was hired and has been going strong for many years. Not only does she do a remarkable job teaching Math, but she also gets to bring awareness to her classes and teach them about disabilities. Sarah reminds us, it is not something that can easily be understood in a textbook, but through those with experience and knowledge.

“It’s going to be hard, and it’s scary, but it’s so worth it”. You are absolutely right Sarah! Thank you for being such an important part of our Camp community!
