The Hearts of Camp No Limits are individuals who have attended camp. Read their stories and meet CNL’s amazing community.
Hunter was only four years old when he lost his leg due to a dog bite. It was quite the traumatic event, and resulted in a long hospital stay. About six weeks post-op, they tried prosthetics, but Hunter was not interested at all. He became a bit shy, and contained, but that did NOT last long…once he broke out of his shell, there was no stopping him!
Hunter attended Camp No Limits that following June, and at Camp is where he started wanting to use his prosthetic leg. Seeing all of the other campers, mentors and volunteers walking with their prosthetics gave him the courage to use his, too. Camp No Limits showed him that he could be comfortable using it, and now he had people to show him how! Rosalie, Hunter’s mom, talks about some of the struggles Hunter faced, such as separation anxiety and trying to fit in with other kids. Going to Camp allowed him to put his guard down, throw his doubts out the window and live a fun-filled, happy life.
Camp No Limits was just the beginning of Hunter’s new adventures. Running has been a super fun activity for Hunter, as well as his new found love for swimming. He’s competed on both able-body swim teams, and specific teams for amputees, and was very successful in both! Another big aspect of his life is social media advocacy. Hunter and his mom share a ton of information about their journey and what it is like to live with a limb difference. With over 20K followers, they have been able to teach and spread awareness to the entire community. Look at you go, Hunter! You can check them out on Instagram and TikTok, @mastalerpartyof5
When leaving Camp No Limits for the first time, Rosalie asked Hunter to use one word to describe his experience or what he was feeling throughout that experience. Some BIG and important feelings were “stronger” and “comfortable”. We couldn’t be more happy to have Hunter and his family as part of our Camp Family!
