Rogelio Rangel
Camp No Limits Mentor

Believe it or not, the healthcare community in other countries is crazy different. Rogelio, a mentor at Camp No Limits, is originally from Mexico and has experienced this firsthand. The entire prosthetics process and design can vary from place to place and they weren’t always high quality, either. Because of this, Rogelio had to constantly get new ones due to how easily they would break. Now fast forward to the present day, Rogelio pursued O&P and gets to contribute in the advancements of these devices daily!

When Rogelio was in kindergarten, he lost his left leg above the knee due to a car accident. He was walking on the sidewalk and a car swerved to avoid another car, but he ended up getting injured himself. This was the start of quite the journey for him! It wasn’t long before he was up in a prosthetic, playing soccer, football, baseball and doing all of his favorite activities.

“I remember all the time I would go to Mexico City and always get asked if I was going to be a prosthetist but I never really knew. I saw an O&P program on my computer and got really inspired. It all just kind of fell into place.” So, he applied into school and got accepted. This opportunity is where Rogelio learned about Camp No Limits, and he was so shocked to find out that there were camps out there like this. It didn’t take long for him to get pulled in and try new things! He had only seen other amputees through his work, so this was a totally different experience. He says it made him feel prideful and like a kid again! We love having you at camp, Rogelio!

In Mexico he would stand out because he didn’t know anyone else missing a limb- there was lots of doubting and many questions. Still, he had an incredibly supportive family and great mindset. Rogelio says, “In life no matter who you are, your race, religion , disability, there’s always stuff that will get in your way but you gotta keep going and get through it. Don’t let anything take up unnecessary space. We’re all going to have problems but if you realize how it makes you a better person, and how it can help people understand- it gets easier.”

Perfectly said Rogelio! Camp No Limits is so lucky to have you!
