What year did you get involved with Camp No Limits?

2020

Did you start as a family/camper, volunteer/staff, or another role?

Volunteer

Fun fact about me:

At my first camp in Arizona, I discovered that I love wheelchair basketball and I have since joined the Angel City Sports' women's wheelchair basketball team!

Why do you feel it is important to serve on the IDEA Committee?

Camp has been a special and affirming place for me, and I want it to be special and affirming for everyone else who attends. Disabled communities have the same divisions and biases as the general population based on race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexuality, religion, socioeconomic status, and so on. We're stronger together though, so we all need to check our biases and contribute to a welcoming place.

Favorite thing about camp:

Camp activities! This is when the magic happens. People can try new things - like how I got to try wheelchair basketball - and discover new hobbies. This is also when new friendships blossom.

Any tidbits of advice for families attending camp?

I am shy and introverted, so the first night of camp can be uncomfortable. A lot of people feel that way though. I try to be the brave one - just approach people and introduce myself. I recommend it! You’ll be okay.
