Charisse Stieff

What year did you get involved with Camp No Limits?

2015

Did you start as a family/camper, volunteer/staff, or another role?

Family

Fun fact about me:

We love playing games together. The four of us have spent hours at a time playing computer games, board games, card games, etc. We love them so much that we find it hard not to buy new games to try (but we resist sometimes).

Why do you feel it is important to serve on the IDEA Committee?

When I first started attending camp, it was less diverse than it is today. I am very used to predominantly white environments, so that wasn't the issue. The issue was that I knew there were other families who could benefit from camp but for a variety of reasons weren't going. I remain hopeful that the IDEA committee will increase awareness and participation among lots of underrepresented groups, not just ones that I belong to personally.

Favorite thing about camp:

My favorite part about camp is the freedom from "negative" curiosity and of course, seeing the other families with whom we have connected over the years.

Any tidbits of advice for families attending camp?

Be open, have fun, step out of your comfort zone. That last bit of advice was big for Charisse as a huge introvert but it has been incredibly rewarding.
